This one is too hot  . This one is too cold . This one is just right .

When you are building a business from the ground up, you have to try things. And this process is MESSY.

You don’t have the luxury of historical data. You can’t afford the cream of the crop software. And you do your best to create a plan and make educated decisions. But, at the end of the day, you aren’t God and can’t 100% predict what is going to happen in the future.

You have to find out through trial and error - what’s too hot  , what’s too cold  , and what’s just right .

Let’s use the example of inventory control. For us, this is how much BIOLYTE  we need at any given time to fill orders now and in the future.

“Let’s do 30 days of inventory on hand. That’s the industry standard .”

“The flavor house is telling us that we’re going to hit some supply chain issues  in the next coming months. Let’s increase our days on hand (DOH) to 60 days.”

“Okay, now sales are coming in stronger than we expected . Let’s go up to 90 days!”

“All of our cash is tied up in inventory , and the sales spike didn’t last as long as we anticipated . We have to pull back on inventory!”

“The banks  are asking why we have so much inventory, we need to pull back down to 30 days to free up more cash  .”

“We just got a HUGE order for Tropical . We’re out of stock for the next two weeks .“

Toss in different flavors, different formats, different people, different economic environments, and you’ve got a real life 500,000 piece puzzle  whose pieces move and change every day.

It’s what makes it fun. It’s what’s makes it exciting. But it is what is also a royal pain in the buns .

Don’t get down on yourself if you find yourself in a “too hot”  or “too cold”  situation. This only means you’re one step closer to finding your “just right.”
